We're working on our first one now up here in Asheville - check out this link, people have discovered ways to convert domestic microwaves into high-powered metal melters.

I have a friend who made one of these...he has cast aluminum with some success but it takes a loooooong loooooong loooooong time.

LOL! No I don't think they did.
The castings are not of the best quality...they seem to end up with lots of air pockets. Very similar to campfire aluminum pours that I have done on river trips with everyones beer and soda cans. Good Fun!
